The thing about TV interviews

26/2/2014

When going on television to be interviewed, the first thing you have to remember is that TV is a very visual medium. So before you worry about your message or what questions will be asked or what clever grabs you want to give, you have to make sure your visual image is completely consistent with the message you are wanting to communicate.

When people see you on TV you don’t want them commenting on your clothes. You want them focused on your message. Full stop.

So, before you head on into your interview, it’s a good idea to rehearse it …. maybe record it and play it back with the sound OFF! Take a good hard look at what you see.

Do your clothes sit well? Are the colours bleeding or blurring? Is your jewelry overwhelming? Has your forehead started to shine?

Take every visual element into account to maximise your performance. Do a checklist and include:
. Clothes
. Makeup
. Jewelry
. Hair
. Posture
. Facial expressions
. Head movements
. Body movement
. Hand movements

Now it’s not that style is MORE important than substance. Substance is what counts. But no one will concentrate on your message if your style is distracting. Smooth it out first before you think about trying to deliver your message.
