1. Prepare, Prepare, Prepare
So many people rush to get their stuff up on youtube that they don’t bother taking the time to write their material.
Sit and think about what you want to portray and where you’d like to portray it and try if possible to come up with something original. You are only limited by your imagination!
2. Know the Medium
Your videos shouldn’t run over five minutes if possible. The video, like any good story, should have a good strong opening, a middle and a big finish. Remember to make the video as engaging as possible too so that the viewer keeps watching all the way till the end.
3. Make sure the look is professional
If possible use a professional outfit to produce for you to ensure that the lighting, the sound and the pictures are all top notch. You want to use this video to sell yourself or your services/products so it must be a reflection of who you are and where you sit in the marketplace. If the video looks cheap and nasty, that’s what the audience is going to think of you or your offering. Production values are very important and they’re what will set you apart from thousands of other videos on the web!
4. Do your fair share of marketing – subtly
Don’t shout at people over Facebook and Twitter to spruik your wares. Social media is not the place for advertising. These sites are however the place where people turn to pick up interesting bites of information and the more interesting you can make your content, the more people you will attract to your pages. Market yourself subtly on social media by regularly putting out content that’s focused on your targeted audience.
5. Ask the experts
You wouldn’t paint your house on your own, even if you were perfectly capable, so don’t try to produce a video all by yourself either if that’s not your line of work. There are so many experts out there that will be only too happy to provide good advice. My best advice to you is consult the experts and then work within your budget.
Have you had any good or bad experiences with producing website videos? I’d love to hear about them if you’d like to share in the comments box below!
